Weak-key work and everyday English are different

Keybr’s algorithmic practice is designed to target weak keys, making it useful when particular letters repeatedly interrupt your rhythm. TypeLab instead offers structured guided practice with age-adjusted targets. For English writing, assess both letter confidence and whole sentences: improving a troublesome key does not by itself show that capitals, contractions and punctuation have become comfortable.

Custom layouts need a separate compatibility check

Keybr confirms custom keyboard layout definitions, so it should not be dismissed if you use a less conventional arrangement. TypeLab confirms QWERTY, AZERTY and QWERTZ core layouts. English can be typed on different setups; check your physical keys, operating-system mapping and regional symbols before switching, especially if your current Keybr practice depends on a custom definition.

Consider TypeLab if you want:

  • Structured guided practice rather than a primarily key-focused routine.
  • Age-adjusted targets with tests and browser games for variety.

Consider Keybr if you want:

  • Adaptive practice focused on weak keys and associated statistics.
  • Documented custom keyboard layout definitions.

Our assessment

Keep Keybr if targeted key practice and layout definitions are central to your routine. Try TypeLab if you want more guidance and a mix of practice activities rather than key statistics alone.

Moving your practice from Keybr to TypeLab

  1. Write down the keys that currently cause the most errors.
  2. Check your layout in TypeLab’s introduction and establish a fresh accuracy baseline.
  3. Use guided practice regularly, keeping occasional weak-key checks if they remain useful.

Common questions

Must I stop using Keybr to try TypeLab?

No. You can keep Keybr for focused key work and use TypeLab for a guided routine, judging each against its purpose.

Will better key statistics improve my emails?

They can indicate fewer letter-level difficulties, but check transfer with sentences containing capitals and punctuation. A key statistic is not a complete measure of everyday writing.
