English practice starts with the right keyboard
English does not imply one keyboard setting. UK and US QWERTY keyboards differ in symbol placement, including familiar quotation and email characters, so match your operating-system setting to the physical keyboard before judging errors. TypeLab confirms QWERTY, AZERTY and QWERTZ core layouts, but that is not a guarantee of every regional variant. Check the actual exercise text too: lowercase word lists reveal less about everyday typing than sentences with capitals, apostrophes, numbers and punctuation.
Choose for your daily writing, not a leaderboard
If you are learning at home, start with what interrupts your writing: searching for keys, repeated mistakes or losing rhythm around punctuation. A course provides structure, a targeted trainer isolates weak keys, and a timed test measures a particular task. Families should also consider whether each learner can follow the instructions comfortably. Compare accuracy and speed under consistent settings, then check progress on realistic sentences. Adult learners do not need classroom administration simply because they want a structured course.
